چکیده

One of the modern linguistic theories that is concerned with sentence structure and studies its characteristics is Chomsky’s transformational theory, which differentiates between the mental generative sentence and the written transformed sentence. The purpose of transformation in this theory is to transfer the inner structure to the tangible outer structure. In this theory, the sentence undergoes four transformations: permutation, deletion, replacement, and addition. Their benefit is evident in expressing what is in the sender’s mind and changing the meaning. Then this research is based on the descriptive analytical method by studying the patterns of transformation in the sentence, applying that to the text of Imam Ali (pbuh) in Nahj al-Balagha, especially from his words when he was pledged allegiance to in Medina, which is Sermon 16 of it. The research shows the role played by transformation and aims to reveal the aesthetics of these transformed elements as well as the reality of the changes that occur to sentences - whether verbal or nominal - in their deep structures. The research results indicate that all four elements transformed from permutation to deletion and to addition all share one point, which is emphasis, because the words of Imam Ali (pbuh) often address those who claim the matter of the Imamate. The research proves that the transformation by addition in this sermon in its various forms has an intense presence in this sermon. It became clear deletion occurred frequently in this sermon, and its purpose was to reduce the monotony of repetition.
