The concept of the order of creation in Nahj al-Balagha, particularly in explaining the structure and relations governing the universe, provides a basis for dialogue between Islamic theology and contemporary philosophy of science. Within complexity science, self-organization theory examines the conditions and processes through which ordered patterns and organized structures emerge from interactions among components of complex systems. Using conceptual and comparative analysis, this study compares features of the order of creation in Nahj al-Balagha with central concepts of self-organization theory and examines the extent to which these frameworks can be meaningfully related. The findings indicate that Nahj al-Balagha characterizes the order of creation through the proportionality of components, interconnectedness of beings, coherence of the cosmic order, and the law-governed nature of the universe. By contrast, self-organization theory explains order through nonlinear interactions, feedback, far-from-equilibrium dynamics, and collective pattern formation. Comparison shows that their principal convergence lies in a holistic and relational understanding of order; however, this does not imply conceptual or scientific equivalence. Accordingly, self-organization may be regarded as one mechanism through which order emerges in certain natural systems, without implying that it determines the ultimate origin of natural laws or the purpose of creation. The study concludes that distinguishing between natural-mechanism explanation and philosophical-theological interpretation can provide a methodologically sound basis for dialogue between complexity science and Islamic philosophy.
